Mental stress is a major cause of suicide. According to a WHO report, 7 lakh 3 thousand people committed suicide worldwide in 2019. Of these, 58 percent of the people were above 50 years of age. You may be surprised to know that the youth of 20 years to 35 years commit maximum suicide. Their number is more than 60 thousand. Most of them include youth coming from law and middle class families.

History of World Mental Health Day and Theme of 2022

 

The World Federation of Mental Health (WFMH) officially established World Mental Health Day in the nineties. Since then it is celebrated every year on 10 October. According to the WHO, the World Federation of Mental Health has set the theme of World Mental Health to be celebrated on 10 October 2022 as ‘Make Mental Health and Well-Being for All a Global Priority’.

This year, WHO, in collaboration with partners, is going to launch the ‘Make Mental Health and Well-Being for All a Global Priority’ campaign. It aims to mainstream mental health and wellness for people with mental health conditions, lawyers, governments, employers, employees and other stakeholders. So that this issue can be talked about at the international level and the mental health of the people remains healthy.
